Edy Forey is a debuting duo based in Edinburgh, UK.
Pianist & composer Guilhem Forey makes magic with producer & singing lyricist Edy Szewy. Their eclectic sound lives on the groovier side of jazz - a fusion with soul, retro rhythm & blues, house music & hiphop - simply known as urban jazz.
Their upcoming debut record Culture Today is a star-studded affair. Engineered by Bob Power (D’Angelo/A Tribe Called Quest/Erykah Badu), it most notably features: bassist Michael League, saxophonist Bob Reynolds, guitarist Mark Lettieri (Snarky Puppy/Vulfpeck), drummer Femi Koleoso (Ezra Collective/Gorillaz), bassist Sharay Reed (Funk Apostoles/Aretha Franklin/Chaka Khan) and sax prodigy Alex Hahn.
Other striking talent consists of drummers Isac Jamba, Tom Gordon (BBC Big Band), Leonn Meade (London Community Gospel Choir) and Seiya Osaka. Soloists include Japanese jazz legends: TOKU on flugelhorn and Miho Wada on flute; as well as Berkley’s Grammy-nominated flutist Sarpay Ozcagatay; percussion by Brazil’s finest Carlinhos Percussão and a range of finest British talent, such as Adam King, Dean Mark, Jonathan Tuitt, Andrew Robb and counting…
Lyrically, Culture Today delivers a poetic perspective on life in the XXI century. It deals with the beauty and the beast of human nature and navigates the relationship between the physical reality and its invisible - spiritual - dimension. It is a manifesto of sober minded non-conformism that elevates authentic individuality to the forefront of being, all the while proposing Love as an the answer to Life.
Culture Today in 3 words? Truth + Soul + Fire
“In my 35+ years in the upper echelons of the professional music business,
I have seldom met a duo with more talent and drive.
They combine a unique and compelling blend of pop music sensibility with a deep foundation of advanced musicianship.”
